While walking about, I have run into people, buildings, animals, and even my own family. My daughters spent much of their childhood asking “Papa, what are you looking at?” The answer? I am “Looking for the Light” – or taking in the details. Architecture encompasses ALL the senses, and the four generally accepted dimensions of space […]
A category developed originally to share architectural travel experience with our clients and followers. In the winter of 2014 the we opened our own travel agency so that we can teach people to Travel Like an Architect™! We are seeking to dispel the thought that “International Travel” is too expensive, and to teach people how they can travel with their families afford-ably! Older posts were left up as A collection of photos and narration written by an architect about a variety of architecture. The posts are written about different places we have visited. The places may be historic, famous, distant or very nearby. All of the posts contain photos. The final post in this category contains links to “Belles Word Travel” Lynn & Rob Belles Cruises Inc.’s Website where you can shop for a vacation find links to the Social Media Sites where architectural travel posts are continuing..

Mansions? these are all correct but, there is also “Humble Architecture”, the small homes built by squatters, taking a life time to complete. During our last visit to the […]

I mean we know what you are thinking, because most of you are not booking! That’s why the price is so appealing… But what would be wrong with doing one day of work in an exotic place during your 7 Day Luxurious Vacation? 1. You might teach something. 2. You might learn something. 3. You will help someone. While traveling deep into a culture engaging with it’s working class people. When are you ever going to get a chance to do that? “fathom” makes all the arrangements and even gives you a comfortable ride there. The best part is that it is included in the cruise fare which right now is WAY below market rate.
What do Architects read in the Bathroom? The Hippest Winery in Ensenada Mexico! Our bathroom is just full of Architecture Magazines….. Rob reads them from cover to cover. Huatulco is packed with ancient Indian history. In pre-Hispanic times, the Copalita Eco-Archaeological Park was inhabited by the coastal Tututepec tribe. Later on the Zapotec, Mixtec and Aztec merchants established important trade routes through the region. Coastal navigation was controlled from the town, which remains the only site in which a navigation aid has been […]
La Crucecita, is the heart of the small city of Huatulco. It is also the Cruise Ship Port, where one gets a taxi, shops for local crafts, as well as a place to have a drink and “surf the net” before returning to sea. La Crucecita means “The small Cross”. Before the tourist complex, […]
The city of Old San Juan once had a wall surrounding it entirely. This is the original gate through which important people would come if they were arriving via the sea port. Finally – we were able to get away for a real vacation. Of course as Architects – our vacation is full of exploring […]
A recent weekend get-away culminated with a stop at the Milwaukee Art Museum to check out the Frank Lloyd Wright “Organic Architecture for the 21st Century” exhibit. We always enjoy the approach to the museum and the spectacular 2000 addition by Santiago Calatrava and it’s Burke Brise Soleil. This time we didn’t photograph it…. We […]
